Keys to a healthy stomach
By Jarrett Kruse
An old saying says that the secret to solving stomach problems is 30% treatment and 70% conditioning. Our stomachs operate at a very high capacity depending on the type of lifestyle we live. The human digestive system processes food over a period of between 12 and 48 hours depending on the type of food ingested. Also known as the gut, stomach problems stem from our bodies ability to process the fuel we need to keep ourselves fit and healthy while eliminating toxins and other waster products resulting from the digestive process of a healthy stomach. The digestive tract is made up of several sections each of which has a specific function to help process foods ingested into the body.

As well as preventing constipation, a healthy high fiber diet has been proved to reduce bowel cancer, heart disease, stomach disease and diverticular disease, which affects the large intestine. Many people have small pouches in the lining of the colon, and these weak points can bulge outwards. These pouches are called diverticulitis and they are associated with a low fiber diet. Constipation causes stomach pain and increased pressure in the colon, which forces the colon’s lining to bulge out through the weak places in the wall of the colon, forming diverticula. This is a painful condition that can, if untreated, develop into an infection in the colon.
Eating smaller meals more often benefits the digestive system because the acids produced in the stomach to break down the food can damage the stomach lining when no food is present. Common stomach disorders include indigestion, inflammation, stomach ulcers, pain, bloating and nausea. Stomach pains have always been a problem for doctors because at best medication can only have secondary effects on second treatment. According to most doctors, the key to maintain good stomach health is always in conditioning. Eating too fast may result in food being inadequately broken down making digestive fluids will not be able to do their work correctly.
