There are a number of reasons why an individual would choose a fasting diet. Originally this type of diet was used as part of a spiritual program, to clear the mind and tune into a religious or holistic experience. People have also used fasting diets for body detoxification and cleanse the body from harmful environmental toxins, constipation or chemicals for the sake of weight loss. There are a number of types of fasting diets with the best known follows a routine of only consuming fruit or vegetable juices, or drinking water with a syrup and lemonade mix for several days up to a week.

The intermittent fast has recently become popular; in that program the individual eats regularly for one day then eats nothing the next, repeating the pattern for a up to a month. The least difficult fasting is one that limits its participant to eating a healthy diet with whole raw fruits and vegetables, drinking fresh organic juices and consuming nuts for extra energy. The diet someone chooses to pursue depends on their experience with fasts and their overall health. A colon cleanse or an enema is a very popular home based method for cleaning the buildup of waste inside the colon walls.
An individual considering a fasting diet should first examine their reasons for pursuing that particular path. These types of fasting diets are difficult to follow as they call for a great deal of willpower and concentration. Psyllium husk, which is the base for most colon cleansers, turns bowel movements into a soft gel making them easier to pass. They may lead to complications and unpleasant side effects so it is important to consult a doctor if there are health issues involved or if the fast will last more than three days. A fasting diet can be a spiritual experience to purify the body; what it is not is a way to achieve permanent weight loss. Some people combing fasting with colonic irrigation to flush the body and reboot their systems. Almost all individuals who lose weight during a fast regain the weight quickly. Instead of starving to achieve weight loss results, look into adding a proven supplement with fat burning and appetite suppression to your current diet plan.
